I am a third-year journalism student at the University of Georgia. I’m also pursuing a certificate in public affairs professionalism in communications and minors in theatre and educational psychology.
Growing up in Calhoun, a small, rural Georgia town, I’ve used reading and writing as an escape for as long as I can remember. I fell in love with the idea that ordinary people — and ordinary words — can evoke change in the world.
I came to UGA with this in mind, confident that my voice had worth and influence. Being a student at Grady has only strengthened that feeling. With the support of my peers and professors, I have grown in my understanding of every aspect of journalism.
My coursework so far has taught me to write journalistically with AP Style and the ethics of journalism. Volunteering on the production side of Grady Newsource has shown me how a story gets pieced and how that’s an art in and of itself.
I have many ambitions regarding my career interests. I could see myself becoming a broadcast anchor, political reporter, press secretary or a news web designer and animator.
I’m eager to continue my journalism career and expand my knowledge and experiences through Grady organizations like Grady Newsource, Women in Media and the PAC program. Doing so will springboard me into a successful career in journalism and communications.
